Forward Assist are currently looking for a part time therapeutic case worker to support us in a new project commencing in April 2026.
Experience
Proven experience in case work, therapeutic interventions, or direct support work with vulnerable populations, preferably with veterans or individuals involved in the criminal justice system. Understanding of trauma-informed practice and psychologically informed approaches to engagement and support. Strong assessment and care planning skills, with the ability to identify needs, set goals, and monitor progress effectively. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with veterans experiencing complex challenges including mental health issues, trauma, substance use, and social isolation. Experience of working collaboratively with statutory services (Probation, NHS, housing providers) and voluntary sector organisations. An understanding of safeguarding procedures and risk management in a community support setting.

Job Purpose
To provide therapeutic case work support to military veterans on probation in the Northumbria region, using a being-becoming-belonging Quality of Life model to support positive transitions from military to civilian life. The role is pivotal in delivering the Ministry of Justice commissioned service, ensuring veterans receive trauma-informed, intensive support to improve engagement with Probation services, access specialist resources, and achieve improved health and wellbeing outcomes. This role will involve managing a small caseload of veterans (up to 10), providing weekly one-to-one supervision sessions, facilitating group activities, coordinating peer mentoring support, and working closely with Probation practitioners to deliver a 6-month intensive support programme.
