'SALUTE HER' - WOMEN VETERANS PROJECT
Empowering Women Veterans
Forward Assist is a multi-award winning charity that facilitates “Post Traumatic Growth” for military veterans. Over the last two years Forward Assist has actively campaigned for ‘gender specific’ mental health interventions for women veterans.
In September 2016 The All Party Parliamentary Group On Social Work, Published A Report of the Inquiry into Mental Health Services in England. Two of the recommendations raised by Forward Assist were;
- 24. Ensure that veteran mental health services continue to be supported and ensure plans include social work interventions that deliver preventive and restorative outcomes.
- 25. Establish a government inquiry into the mental health of female veterans with a focus on developing a framework to support them.
Forward Assist were awarded funding by the Department of Culture Media and Sport in 2016 to identify the nature of social disadvantage facing women veterans during their transition from military service to civilian life. 'Salute Her' is a women's veterans research collaborative led by Project Lead, Paula Edwards.

‘I am delighted to be supporting Forward Assists Women Veterans Project. The DCMS funded ‘Salute Her’ project is a one of its kind in the UK and provides groundbreaking opportunities for Women Veterans to help design a gender specific service that is truly ‘needs led’. Women Veterans have unique post service needs and I am committed to making sure that they contribution is recognised and that they receive the best care and support available to ensure a successful transition to civilian life’.
