April turned into our busiest month so far with the veterans Cook2Give team smashing their previous year’s target by cooking over 800 free nutritious meals this year alone! Outstand-ing. The Horticulture team and volunteers has prepared the land and the overwintering on-ions and garlic are in good health with one plot dedicated solely to potatoes in anticipation of demand from the Cook2Give Team.

Another busy month for Team Forward Assist at the Veterans HQ. The Veterans allotment is looking good with a host of vegetables planted for a harvest later in the year. Bike Dr Dave continues to facilitate regular cycling sessions specifically for veterans and this programme will run throughout 2017. Forward Assist delivered an arts project in partnership with Helen McArdle Care Homes and Tees Valley Arts. The project enabled the armed forces veterans in the Care home to reminisce and regale each other of their exploits and time spent in the armed forces. Part of the project entailed each veteran being photographed professionally by Ian Forsyth of Tees Valley Arts... more

Forward Assist needed to run like a ‘well-oiled machine’ to make June a success and the Team certainly rose to the challenge.
In association with North Tyneside Council’s Active North Tyneside initiative, Forward Assist are now funding archery sessions and tuition for veterans at the John Willie Sams Centre. Archery is a sport which appeals to all levels of physical ability but still requires high levels of concentration and a steady hand... more

This month began with Boxing for the Brave, a white collar fundraiser for Forward Assist in partnership with Sunderland AFC’s Foundation of Light. A team of 19 competitors, 6 of those veterans, completed 12-weeks arduous fitness and boxing training under the tuition of Sunderland amateur boxing legend, Karl Duke, to prepare them for the main event at the Rainton Meadows Arena on Friday 6 May... more

OCTOBER 2015

October began at the dizzying heights of 15000 ft! Local veteran, Phil Logan put his abilities and nerves to the test with a sponsored tandem skydive to raise funds for Forward Assist. Phil was looked after by the guys at Peterlee Parachute Centre (owned by two former servicemen) on a glorious autumnal day with clear blue skies...

SEPTEMBER 2015

In good military fashion, we hit the ground running in September. Office Manager, Steve, was seconded to Walking with The Wounded to drive one of the support vehicles during their ‘Walk of Britain’...


AUGUST 2015

We were ‘spinning more than a few plates’ this August! A lot of staff time went into preparing for upcoming events in September and beyond. Our sport and fitness events are becoming increasingly popular and the requests for our veteran led ‘community benefit’ projects has gone through the roof...


JULY 2015

July saw another busy month for ‘Team Forward Assist’ which included European and Trans Atlantic travel. Simon and Pat completed the Ride of Remembrance with Sunderland Foundation of Light travelling 320 miles from Brussels to Paris on bicycles in 4 days to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of World War Two...


JUNE 2015

June 2015 was another ‘action packed’ month for ‘Team Forward Assist’. Simon Kristiansen has made links with Newcastle Fencing Club and we have made plans to expand the variety of sporting activities on offer to the veterans that access our service...


MAY 2015
